DISPERSION - The separating of light so that the resultant rays flash as various spectral colors - red,
orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. "Fire" is the gorgeous sparkle of colors we enjoy as the result of dispersion.
SCINTILLATION - The flashing of light from various polished facets of a gemstone seen by the observer as the gemstone,
the light source, or the observer moves. The excellence of the beauty of a diamond's scintillation ensues from the diamond
cutter's attention to several details: 1. The number of facets.
2. The quality of polish on the facets.
3. The facet angles.
4. The proportions of the diamond, cut so that there is a
maximum number of distinquishable reflections.
