A lively ruby set in fine jewelry enriches its wearer far beyond ordinary measure. The ancient Hindus
correctly referred to a true ruby as "The Gemstone of Nobility". Ruby, a gemstone influenced
both by the Sun, the giver of light, and by Venus, the giver of love, has long been believed by those who know such things
to encourage the noblest in thought, in action, and in love.

RUBY AS A LIFE-ENHANCING GEM
Sir John Mandeville, in a 14th century treatise, wrote that if a brilliant ruby, set in ring, bracelet or brooch, were
worn on the left side, the fortunate owner could be assured of a life of nobility. Furthermore, the wearer would live in
peace and concord knowing that neither land nor social standing could be taken. Plus, " neither house, not fruit trees, nor
vineyards would be harmed by tempests".

WHERE RUBY CAN BE FOUND
Ruby, like sapphire, is a type of corundum crystal. While corundum is a fairly common material found in many places,
only under nearly ideal conditions does precious transparent corundum grow. Furthermore, the fiery red ruby corundum has formed
under even more rare circumstances than other forms of gem corundum. Thus a natural ruby grown in the earth is a precious
and desirable gemstone indeed.

THE MONETARY VALUE OF RUBY Much of the price of a ruby depends on
the color and the brilliance of the internal life coming from this most precious gemstone.

ENHANCEMENTS
Unfortunately all rubies are not lively and full of internal excitement. Because of the scarcity of brilliant rubies,
people have been attempting to improve the appearance of duller rubies for centuries.
In this century, trades people commonly use five methods to enhance the appearance of a ruby. Shinjyu Jewelry will not
sell you rubies that are enhanced with the exception of those that have been heat treated. Heat treatment is stable and
is an accepted gem industry practice.

"RUBIES" THAT ARE NOT RUBIES
Intentionally or not, people have mistaken imitations, synthetics, or other natural gemstones as rubies. To put a twist
on an old song, "A good ruby is hard to find, you always get the other kind...". Be assured though that when you get ruby
from Shinjyu Jewelry, you will get a natural ruby.

RUBIES IN JEWELRY
"The gleaming ruby should adorn
All those who in July are born.
For thus they'll be exempt and free
From lover's doubts and anxiety."
Ruby set in personal jewelry is a wonderful gift for a person born in July. It is also a fine centerpiece
for a gift of jewelry to celebrate a couple's 40th wedding anniversary.
As to weddings, several of our clients have chosen ruby as a center stone for engagement rings, or as accents for
wedding bands. Ruby gemstones are very durable and long lasting.
Jewelry that has the brilliant red life of a fine ruby as a centerpiece, represents, in the language of gemstones, a lasting
and passionate relationship, one with secure bonds that two people build when they are truly in love.
